A "happy rally" Sunday on the sand in Manhattan Beach will send the message to city officials that hundreds of residents want the dune at Sand Dune Park to remain open, its organizers hope. "It's a celebration of 40 years of physical activity at the park," said co-organizer Jake Rome, 38, who lives a quarter-mile from Sand Dune Park. "We want it to be peaceful, large, fun and passionate. It is absolutely not an angry protest. It's a happy rally." The rally, which begins at 2 p.m. on the beach at 26th

Rally New Zealand has been handed a lifeline in its bid to stay in the World Rally Championship. The Government is pouring in $250,000 to help promote the May event overseas, in a bid to convince the promoters and governing body the FIA to keep the event on the world circuit next year. New Zealand is off the provisional calendar for 2011, which will be ratified at an FIA meeting next month.

(We'll) apply that to making this years event a better event, to make it a whole lot harder for anybody to consider going anywhere else.   -Gerry Brownlee

Labour's Sport and Recreation spokesperson Chris Hipkins has welcomed the Government's change of heart over providing funding to support the iconic Rally of New Zealand. "Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee has finally seen sense and reversed his decision last month when he declined an application to the Major Events Fund to support the event," Chris Hipkins said. The Intercontinental Rally Challenge will visit the Canary Islands for the first time this year after series organisers announced Rally Islas Canarias Trofeo El Corte Inglés would replace Rally Principe de Asturias on the 12-event IRC calendar. 18.03.2010. Rally Argentino's second showdown of the year will present an upgrade version of the National Series. This weekend the Argentine Rally Championship will tackle a special competition in which it will share the ground with the Intercontinental Rally Challenge's third round and the South American Rally Championship's second presentation. Rally de Argentina has now began, and local drivers are really eager to start the competition as it's an unique opportunity to show themselves in a wide world
